Forrest Dunbar(Peace Corps Kazakhstan) US Congressional Candidate Alaska

Forrest is running for Congress in Alaska! He is one of three RPCVs running for office in Alaska. Last week for Peace Corps Connect Nashville, We asked him to tell how Peace Corps has impacted in political leadership and career path. This is what he said:

“More than anything else, the Peace Corps taught me perseverance. I was very young when I went to Kazakhstan, and honestly I’d never failed as much as I did during my service. Campaigning, and policy leadership, takes that same kind of resiliency. You can’t get caught up in every moment, every little success or failure. The Peace Corps helps you think big picture, and realize that– while there will be many setbacks– you have to keep at it, knowing you are part of a long-term effort to make your community a better place.”
